Ayperi Karabuda Ecer is Vice-President, Pictures at Reuters, with global responsibility for images. She was Editor-in-Chief of Magnum Photos Paris for 12 years and previously Bureau Chief for Sipa Press in New York. Ayperi was chair of the World Press Photo jury in 2010 and has shared her expertise at the Joop Swart Masterclass on four occasions. At Reuters, she has helped shape the vision of news photography with her team by editing books, multimedia and exhibitions. These have included previous best-selling Reuters books, notably The State of the World (Thames & Hudson 2006), published in ten languages. Ayperi has produced an international programme of touring exhibitions, showcasing Reuters photographers’ work in 50 cities from Shanghai to London. Ayperi led production of the award-winning multimedia essay Bearing Witness, reflecting on five years of war in Iraq, and initiated Times of Crisis, charting the global impact of the credit crunch.
